Envelope Addressing & Etiquette

For calligraphers and fountain pen lovers alike! This workshop is designed for those who wish to learn how to address envelopes using their existing calligraphy or handwriting skills. Participants will learn the following: Creating a balanced envelope layout & composition, setting up guidelines and making templates for writing, centering techniques, determining proper scale for writing in various sizes, writing on odd shapes and challenging surfaces, dealing with dark and heavily lined papers, and choosing the right nib for your job.

We will also cover the basic rules of etiquette for both formal and informal affairs as it applies to addressing while working within the USPS guidelines. We’ll also explore “A Day in the Life of an Envelope” as it travels through the US Postal Service (you’ll be surprised!).

 Level: Intermediate

Please note: This is not a letterforms workshop. A basic knowledge of at least one lettering style is necessary to fully benefit from this workshop. If you don’t know calligraphy, please feel free to come with your fountain pen and use your own handwriting style for this class.

Please note: There is a $5 materials fee for envelopes provided by the instruction, which will be collected at the start of class.
