Charles Rennie Mackintosh (1868-1928) was a well-known Scottish artist and architect who was a key figure of the art nouveau design movement. He was known for his innovative work in interior design, furniture and textiles. His architectural design of the Glasgow School of Art, the Willow Tearoom and Hill House are shining examples of his style to this day. He was considered to be the Frank Lloyd Wright of Scotland during his lifetime.

On Day 1, you’ll learn the distinctive monoline alphabet designed by Rennie, influenced by his architectural handwriting with its geometric shapes, subtle curves, and elegant simplicity. You’ll explore alternate letters, words and phrases that fit your own taste perfectly! Then you’ll play with fun lists, names, and design envelopes that will make even a postal worker jealous!

On Day 2, You’ll experiment with color! You will learn about  the classic art nouveau palette, create a color study, and play with color combinations you’ll love! Then you’ll design and color the famous Glasgow rose, a rose wreath, tree and more, combining the strong geometric shapes and softer, organic elements of the period. You can also add an uplifting phrase or quote of your choice to create a beautiful card or gift!
